Three Peaks Mountain Challenge

Oliver and Derek Constable at the final summit

On the 7th July 2007 Derek Constable ( a resident of Loddon for 30 years), together with his son Oliver, successfully completed this daunting challenge in the Yorkshire Dales; the aim - to raise substantial funds for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity which provides Marie Curie Nurses to care for terminally ill patients in their own homes.
Here's how they got on >>>>>>>

You will be pleased to know that both myself and Oliver completed the Walk in a little over 10 hours.
The walk was a circuitous one of 26 miles incorporating the climbing of the three highest peaks in the Dales, each one over 2300 ft high.
it was something of an endurance trek; all the climbs were very difficult and the descents extremely dangerous and taxing and the conditions underfoot were either extremely boggy or very rocky. The weather was cool and sometimes wet which suited us as extremely hot and sunny weather would have been unbearable.
We were both extremely pleased to have completed the walk in one piece and are delighted that we managed to raise the sum of close to £2500 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care nurses.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who contributed to our effort to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.

The flying Vicar triumphs!

At the Bells Appeal event held on 7th May 2007 Revd. Nigel Evans took the plunge and abseiled off the top of Holy Trinity Church tower.
Despite being terrified of heights and using a somewhat unusual technique he made it safely to the ground!

An unusual start! Right way up at last! Getting the hang of it

The Holy Trinity Bells Appeal

Bells have been ringing out over Loddon for much longer than the 500 years that the present church has stood.
Over the centuries the bells have celebrated good news, warned of bad news and drawn the people of Loddon to worship.
This long tradition is now under threat because, although they are presently rung regularly, the bells and their fittings are in poor condition, and if nothing is done they will soon become unsafe to ring and fall silent.
