Hardley Flood

The tranquil Hardley Flood lies on the north bank of the River Chet approximately one mile down river from Loddon Staithe.

Hardley Flood

It is an area of shallow lagoons and reed beds formed in the 1940s when agricultural land flooded.

Breaches in the river-bank allow tidal waters to move freely between the river and the marsh.

At low tide much of the flood can dry out and this attracts many wading birds, including some nationally important breeding populations.

The flood can be viewed from the path that runs between it and the river, part of the Wherrymans Way footpath.

Langley with Hardley Parish Council have built, partly by public subscription, a bird hide which sits alongside the path.

This is an excellent spot from which to view the wading birds, but, additionally, Marsh Harriers, Owls, Woodpeckers and the like can also be seen on occasion.

You may even glimpse an Otter.
