The Old Town Hall
Many public functions, such as public meetings and auctions as well as a Magistrates court took place in the function room in The Swan but by the middle of the 19th century the room was no longer large enough to hold these events.
To resolve the problem a small, local company was formed to raise the money to build a new Town Hall on land next to The Swan.
Built in 1870, this red brick, gabled, Victorian public building became the new venue for the Town Council, Magistrate's Court, social functions and public entertainment.
Although no longer the center of social events in the town the building is still in use today.
The main hall, at the rear, houses an indoor bowls club whilst the front of the building is part occupied by a hairdresser and also houses the Loddon Information and Tourist Centre (open during the summer).
In 1998 it was purchased by the Loddon Buildings Preservation Trust who have strived to maintain the building, an expensive task. The building still needs considerable work to bring it back to its original condition.
